One of Menorca's most beautiful [and ecologically important] coves is also one of the most developed.  Thirty years ago there was not even a road here, now there is an array of hotels and apartments, restaurants and bars.

A wide arc of golden sand, bounded by wooded cliffs and an emerald sea, Cala Galdana [or Cala Santa Galdana] enjoys a unique microclimate with higher temperatures and lower winds than the surrounding calas.  The Barranc d'Algendar flows into the sea here, its mouth widened to form a marina for small boats.  A footbridge across the stream leads to a rocky outcrop, almost an island, and a spectacularly sited bar-restaurant where you dine on a terrace directly overlooking the sea.  For the best views of the entire bay, follow the signs to Mirador de Sa Punto on the eastern cliffs, close to the start of the walk to Cala Mitjana.
