Menorca is
popular with couples and families who appreciate an island
of natural beauty, and who like good food. Menorcan
cuisine offers many fish dishes including their famous
lobster casserole, and not to forget the special blend of
gin which has been distilled since the 18th century, when
Menorca was actually under British rule.
Menorca has
over 100 beaches and numerous little coves or "Calas".
In fact, Menorca has more beaches than the rest of the
Balearics put together, and is less developed than
neighbouring Mallorca and Ibiza. Menorca is known
locally as the island "verde y azul" [green and
blue].
Menorcan
nightlife is more restrained than the other Balearic
islands, but throughout the island there is a good choice of
places to eat, drink and relax. Restaurants of all
types can be discovered throughout the island with tapas
being a local favourite. Most of the resorts also
feature a varied choice of entertainment. The shopping
is good too. Menorca is famous for its jewellery and
you will also find some excellent bargains in locally made
leather goods and ceramics.
